Saturday Techny Basin Conservation Area. This location has great potential for rarities! Techny is located west of Waukegan Rd., south of Willow Rd., and east of Ravine Way in Glenview. Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the gravel parking lot on Ravine Way. Trip will last approximately 1.5 hours with possible extension trip to the Botanic Gardens. Leader: Sulli Gibson.

Long-time bird club member “Birding the Great Northwest (Cook County)”: is one of Chicagoland’s best birders and photographers. Her home territory is the rich area of northwest Cook County that harbors such well-known birding sites as Crabtree Lake Nature Center, Baker’s Lake, Deer Grove, and Paul Douglas, all part of the Cook County Forest Preserve District. Through her wonderful photos of birds and other natural history subjects, she will present this region in all of its diversity and beauty.

View migrating waterfowl from the observation tower at this marvelous wetland restoration site along the Illinois River. A trail also follows these backwater lakes. Meet at 10:00 a.m. From I-39 south, take Rt. 71 west to Rt. 26. Turn south (left) on Rt. 26. Go approximately 2.5 miles south. Turn right on Hennepin Farms Rd. (paved road). Take the first right turn onto a sandy road (past the first house on the right). Follow the sandy road 300 feet to the parking lot at the observation tower. Bring scopes and food for the day. Saturday - Eighth Annual Gull Frolic at the Winthrop HarborYacht Club at North Point Marina. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Thanks to the Chicago Ornithological Society, this year's speaker will be British born, Texas-based Martin Reid -- "The Herring Gull Complex: Demystifying the Sub-species". The $10 registration fee helps defray facility expenses and includes continental breakfast, lunch and hot drinks all day.

Our leaders have found some great manure spreads, so get ready to tour fields and dairy farms for horned larks, lapland longspurs, snow buntings, and maybe even a rough-legged hawk! Meet at 8:15 a.m. at the McDonald's on Route 20 in Hampshire off of I-90 ( Northwest Tollway ). Leaders: Sulli Gibson and Dick Paulson.
